Classes

MSUM offers two different classes for all levels of students. TKD I is for beginners and first time students. TKD II is for students that have already taken TKD I and wish to continue their study of Tae Kwon Do. Both classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays in Nemzek.

So what do I need to join Tae Kwon Do?
To start? Nothing. Just sign up for the class when you register for classes for the next semester. When you come just make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes that you wouldn't mind working out it (sweats, gym shorts, etc).

But I'm not (athletic, flexible, aggresive, etc)...
Then it's a good thing none of those are required to study Tae Kwon Do. You don't need to be a superstar athlete to do Tae Kwon Do. Strength, speed, flexibility, and fitness are benefits of practicing Tae Kwon Do, not prerequisities. Tae Kwon Do is a martial art and as with most martial arts, carries with it a strong defensive philosophy. Your training should only ever be used to protect yourself. The point of Tae Kwon Do is not to go around hurting people.

What are the classes like?
Depends on what night you come. Most classes usually start with a warmup to get the blood flowing and the body loosened up from sitting in the classroom all day. After the warmup and stretching the class will move on to work on different skills. Since this is an introductory class, most of the time will be spent working on the basics of Tae Kwon Do. Throughout the semester, as you progress, you'll learn more advanced combinations and drills. Also, you will be taught two patterns, or forms, during the semester. A pattern is just a set of moves used for self practice. If you would like to see for yourself, drop by a class anytime and see what it's like before you join.
